Adult Forum
First Presbyterian Church of Honeoye Falls

Adult Forum meets weekly on Sunday mornings at 9:15 a.m.

We search and question how our Christian faith intersects with the issues we confront in our daily lives. Everyone is welcome to come any week. This year, our class will meet in Room 2 across from the Choir Room.

Hi everyone,
I hope your weekend was one filled with thanks for many blessings - though I am recovering from a houseful for 5 days!

In December, we try to find ways that a group of adults working together for 1 hour can help other organizations during this busy, often stressful Christmas season. It gives us a chance to visit with each other and catch up on each others' lives, while we serve.

Here are this year's projects:

December 6: The Deacons' Prayer Shawl Ministry is donating some beautiful shawls to Lifespan's Nursing Home Ombudsman Program, which mediates patient care issues in long term care facilities in Monroe, Ontario, Genesee and Livingston counties. Ombudsmen are trained, independent volunteers who are assigned to long-term care facilities. Ombudsmen listen, mediate, negotiate, propose and facilitate solutions to residents' concerns and problems. They help residents and families learn to advocate for themselves. The volunteers are aware of residents who would appreciate a shawl and the love and prayers accompanying it. We will prepare the shawls for donation with lovely labels and wrapping.

December 13: We will again wrap and label small holiday gifts for the clients in Restart Substance Abuse Service's 5-day Outpatient Rehabilitation Program. This year their 4 groups are full: 15 women and 3 groups of 15 men each. This program serves individuals (18 years and older) and their families affected by drug and alcohol use or dependency. It serves both men and women, through separate treatment tracks. Rehab program includes: hot breakfast, addiction education, nutrition and wellness sessions, therapeutic recreation, group therapy, adult education, relapse prevention and anger management. Each client in the program participates in individual, family and group therapy. The program meets five times a week for four hours or more. The Deacons' discretionary fund has kindly allocated money for the gifts this year.

December 20: We will bake some holiday breads to donate to our local food cupboard. We bake small and large loaves, with and without nuts! We have some delicious recipes. The food cupboard appreciates having fresh-baked bread to add to the holiday meals it provides, and the need has increased this year.

We can use many hands and look forward to the fellowship we enjoy every year as we work together.

This morning on NPR's Morning Edition, a segment highlighted the physician/politician John Kitzhaber whom Joe Stankaitis mentioned; he spearheaded the development of Oregon's unique healthcare plan. Here is the link to the spot: Former Oregon Gov. Says Key To Health Care Is Costs

God's blessings on your week,
