Committees
First Presbyterian Church of Honeoye Falls The Committees of the First Presbyterian Church are primarily composed of volunteers who have chosen to offer their time and talents to further the work of the Church in our own congregation and to reach out into the community. All committees are sanctioned by the Session and are generally chaired by a Session member. Each committee normally meets once a month. Service commitment is usually made on a year-to-year basis. Christian Education Committee This committee oversees all the educational programs from infant to adult, such as Church School, Communicants Class, Bible Study Groups and Youth Programs. It also provides resources for the Library. As part of this committee, the Christian Education Director serves as a facilitator to train and nurture leaders, and to recommend curricula. Many volunteers are needed to be teachers and leaders of these groups. These programs help students of all ages to grow spiritually through their knowledge of the word of God. Endowment Fund Committee It is the duty of the Endowment Fund Committee to appropriately invest funds, acknowledge gifts, make recommendations to Session about requests and encourage the congregation to contribute to this fund. Five individuals serve on this committee: one is appointed from Session, one from Trustees and one from the Finance Committee. Two are members-at-large who are elected by the congregation at the annual meeting. Fellowship Committee This committee was formed to address the combined goals of the former Communications, Publicity and Welcoming Committees. Anyone is welcome to be part of this committee. The Committee strives to provide a consistent, comfortable approach toward visitors and to practice the kind of hospitality that will help form a bridge upon which relationships can be built. The committee is also responsible for communicating relevant information to the congregation and to the community. Finance and Stewardship Committee After facilitating the process by which each group develops its budget, this committee assimilates each into a total budget for the Church and presents it to Session for approval. Maintaining the financial books of the Church, collecting and recording weekly donations, and presenting Session with a monthly financial review is part of this committee's duties. The Fall Stewardship opportunity for church families to make their pledges to the church and its work is also included. Two members from Session, one Deacon, one Trustee, the Treasurer, the Financial Secretary, the Memorial Fund Treasurer and a representative from the Mission Committee comprise this committee. Memorial Fund Committee The Memorial Fund is used to purchase items from a "wish list" for which the Church does not have funds available. Gifts are usually in memory of family or friends. This committee acknowledges and receives gifts, and prepares for a Dedication Sunday to publicly thank donors for their contributions. Three members are chosen by the Pastor and Clerk of Session. One Treasurer is appointed by Session. The Pastor also serves on this committee ex-officio. Mission Committee In addition to determining allocations of the Church's budget for Mission Projects in support of local efforts, Rochester area ministries and International ministries, this committee seeks to provide information to the congregation pertaining to service and financial mission opportunities. Nominating Committee Three members of the congregation are elected at the annual meeting to serve on this committee, in addition to volunteer representatives from other committees. This group provides a slate of five members recommended for Session, five members for Deacons, four members for Trustees and one member each for the positions of Treasurer and Financial Secretary that will then be voted upon by the congregation. Personnel Committee This committee is responsible for establishing job descriptions, performance reviews and salary recommendations for those employed by the Church. It is also this committee's responsibility to conduct searches for new personnel as needed. All those serving on this committee are Session members. Scholarship Committee Each year at least one scholarship is given to a high school graduating senior. It is the committee's responsibility to recommend those who will receive the scholarships and to present them to the recipients in June. Worship Committee As a committee of Session, the Worship Committee is responsible for providing for the worship of God by the people of God, sharing the Sacraments and for the Music Program in order to grow spiritually both as individuals and as a community. This includes all the details connected with providing regular and special worship services, including Sunday morning and Kids in Worship Programs. |
